Mary Kratz | Chief Research and Innovation Officer
Mary Kratz is the Chief Research and Innovation Officer of the Interoperability Institute, a non-profit organization created to enable organizations and communities to harness the benefits of interoperability at scale. Mary is a leader in the field of biomedical informatics, working at the intersection of inter-disciplinary technology and medicine innovation to address health sector’s greatest challenges.
Prior to her current role, Mary served as a Senior Health Informatics Advisor for the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense. During this impactful tenure, she spearheaded over 40 health information system implementations, primarily for low- and middle-income countries. Her efforts fostered critical partnerships between governments, public non-profit entities, academic research institutions and private companies, significantly improving public health technology infrastructure globally.
Mary’s career trajectory began in the clinical laboratory. She quickly transitioned to healthcare research and technology, managing complex system deployments within and across organizations. Recognized for her technical acumen, Mary chaired committees for leading standards organizations, shaping the very infrastructure that underpins healthcare information exchange. She also played a pivotal role in pioneering the adoption of next-generation internet solutions for academic institutions.
Mary’s academic background is as impressive as her professional achievements. She holds a bachelor of science degree in Biology, a master’s degree in Medical Technology, and has completed doctoral coursework in information science. She has numerous medical professional licensures, Mary further bolstered her credentials with cybersecurity certifications, solidifying her expertise in protecting sensitive health data.
